Dirty Old Media Men
Dirty Old Media Men was written by a female Singaporean writer who goes by the pseudonym Millie Lee. The book is a fictional memoir about a young woman who lands a coveted job in Singapore media. It is here in this male-dominated industry that she experiences the full extent of all kinds of misogyny, bigotry, and sexism. Here, she must contend with the harrowing idea of accepting the abhorrent actions of the men around her as she continues to work towards her dream of becoming a successful journalist.
Within this fictional memoir we are confronted with the idea of both women's rights and women's rights. In this compelling story, we are confronted with difficult questions about the reality of chasing after dreams at the price of abandoning one’s principles and in some cases, even one’s dignity. Ultimately, this narrative is a necessary disruption which strives to be an impetus for further discourse, pushing the agenda of creating more safe spaces for women in the workplace.
